Iconic Statue Fearless Girl in New York City
The Fearless Girl, installed on March 7, 2017 in NYC, in anticipation of International Women’s Day the following day, symbolising female empowerment, is 1.30 meters tall.
Legs apart, hands on the hips, the little girl confidently faces a dangerous opponent. In the original conception, this was the extremely powerful, larger-than-life Charging Bull. The well-known statue of the bull, which was created by Arturo Di Modica (1941-2021) and has stood on Bowling Green since 1989, is a symbol of aggressive financial optimism and success on the stock exchange – the bull market.
Since December 10, 2018, the statue of the “Fearless Girl” has been moved to her new home in front of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). In April, 2018, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the statue would be moved to its current location.
“She spoke to the moment. That sense. That women were not going to life in fear.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio.
